In this weekend’s program the Owner of the Week is our own Brenda Reiswig. Find out how she got into racing in the article below by Kristin Bechthold.

“Many of Canterbury Park’s horse owners have an uderlying passion for horses and racing that keeps them coming back every year. Brenda Reiswig is one of them. She is unique to the game because she races Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds and is equally as enthusiastic about owning and racing both breeds.

Reiswig has owned horses, particularly Paints and Quarter Horses for many years. She has shown in Halter, Showmanship, and Western Pleasure. She made her debut in racing in 2005, which first began when she bought a horse from a relative, raced him, and saw his first win. “The rest is history,” she said with a laugh.

Currently Reiswig owns over 60 horses and operates her own ranch with her husband in two locations: Bismarck, ND and Pauls Valley, OK. She races at Remington Park and Canterbury Park.

Reiswig’s favorite racing memory is when her Quarter Horse Midnight Sunlight won the Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity in 2012. She says she plans to continue racing is “for the love of the horse, plain and simple.”

Just in case you’re curious about that first horse, his name is Mr Toaster (by Toast to Dash). He won a couple races for us and retired after being named Champion Aged Horse by ND Quarterhorse Racing Association in 2005. He now enjoys his job as a natural horsemanship riding and liberty horse while keeping a close eye on his little herd of mares on the ND ranch.
